Interactive key for zooplankton of Northeast USA

Interactive key for zooplankton of Northeast USA

We would like to announce the availability of an interactive image-based key for the zooplankton of the Northeast (USA) produced by the Center for Freshwater Biology at the University of New Hampshire. The goal of the key is to bring taxonomy to a wider audience, while at the same time, to provide a tool accurate enough to be used for scientific studies. The key is based on a variety of taxonomic sources (which we detail) and is a compilation of current taxonomy.

The key is available on CD, but is also freely available at the following site:

http://cfb.unh.edu/CFBkey/index.html

We are excited to release the second version of the key and are continuing its development. We welcome any comments or feedback, as we are always looking for new ideas. Both Dr. James Haney (jfhaney@unh.edu) and Shane Bradt (srbradt@unh.edu) can be contacted about the key.

Flash is necessary to view the images on the first page, but is used nowhere else in the key. QuickTime is the most useful codec for viewing the movies.

Good to see that people around the world are working bring taxonomy into the internet age.

Thanks,

Shane
