XIXth International Seaweed Symposium: Kobe, Japan, 26-31 March, 2007
You are most cordially invited to the 19th International Seaweed Symposium to be held in Japan.
The International Seaweed Symposium (ISS) is held every three years under the auspices of the International Seaweed Association (ISA;
http://www.isaseaweed.org). It is the foremost international meeting on seaweed research and utilization. Scientific research plays a fundamental role in developing seaweed and seaweed products industries. The ISS provides a forum for scientists, technologists, industry and resource managers to present their latest research results and develop new synergies.
Japan has a particularly long history of research on seaweed cultivation and utilization - you should not miss this wonderful opportunity to
appreciate it.
Programme
The Scientific Program includes plenary sessions, mini symposia, contributed oral or poster presentations, workshops, mid-symposium excursions and post-symposium tours. Several mini symposia and workshops are planned on topics such as:
* Genetic engineering of seaweeds;
* Seaweed cultivation techniques;
* Marine hydrocolloids;
* Ecophysiology, secondary metabolites and oxidative stress;
* Taxonomy, phylogenetics and evolution;
* Kelp ecology and climate change;
* Dietary fibre;
* Artificial seaweed beds;
* General and applied biology of Porphyra;
* "Isoyake" (barren ground).
