14th International Symposium on Pollutant Responses in Marine Organisms

14th  International Symposium on Pollutant Responses in Marine  Organisms

First Announcement

Dear Colleagues:
July 11,  2006

You are cordially invited to attend the 14th International Symposium  on Pollutant Responses in Marine Organisms (PRIMO 14), to be held  in Florianópolis from May 6 to 9, 2007. Florianópolis is the capital of  the State of Santa Catarina in the south of Brazil.

PRIMO meetings in  the past have taken place every two years, in Europe or North America. This  will be the first one in a South American
country.

The symposium will  cover a wide range of subjects from aquatic toxicology. As in the past, the  focus will be on the molecular and
cellular mechanisms involved in responses  of aquatic species to pollutants, encompassing aspects of biotransformation  and signal
transduction related to the susceptibility of different species  to xenobiotics. Particular emphasis will be placed on  environmental
genomics and proteomics. The planned scientific sessions will  cover Toxicological Pathology, Mechanisms of Toxicity (Organic  Compounds), Mechanisms of Toxicity (Metals), Biotransformation Enzymes,  Genomics, Proteomics, Genotoxicity, Immunotoxicity, Cell Simulation Models,  and Biocomplexity. Additional sessions may be developed to address  selected topics and applications of mechanistic information, such as  endocrine disruption, modelling of pollutant effects, or  the linking of  molecular and cellular mechanisms to effects at higher levels of  biological organization.

The symposium will be held at the Costão do  Santinho Resort on Santinho Beach in the north of Santa Catarina Island.  Costão do Santinho is a venue of top international standard, renowned for its  elegance and charming atmosphere, and the high quality of its services
(http://www.costao.com.br/). Santa Catarina  Island, also known as Florianópolis,   is a beautiful and  privileged location in the south of
Brazil (http://www.floripaimages.com).

Registration  for the meeting will be in the afternoon of Sunday, May 6, 2007, to be  followed by a reception at the Resort. Registration fees are USD 350.00 until  January 20, 2007, and USD 400.00 thereafter. A limited number of reduced  registrations will be available to graduate students for USD  200.00.
