International Peracarid Course in Coquimbo, Chile

International Peracarid Course in Coquimbo, Chile

For the past two weeks 22 students and 6 instructors dwelled deeply into the ecology and taxonomy of peracarids. During those two weeks, students collected and observed peracarids from many different environments. In the lab, students then proceeded to identify them to the lowest taxonomic level, using both published dichotomous keys and electronic interactive keys. In addition to the local team of instructors, Pilar Haye, Exequiel Gonzalez and Martin Thiel, this year we were supported by Niel Bruce from New Zealand, Jim Lowry from Australia, and Daniel Roccatagliata from Argentina, to whom we are very very thankful for their time, expertise and enthusiasm. Students came from many different countries, including USA, Norway, Greece, Italy, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina and Chile. Some impressions from this years course can be found on the website of the peracarid course:

The Fourth International Course on the Ecology and Taxonomy of Peracarids is envisioned for 2009.
