Global Water Eakage Summit

LONDON BUSINESS CONFERENCES ANNOUNCES THE SECOND IN A SERIES OF GLOBAL SUMMITS ON WATER LEAKAGE

GLOBAL LEAKAGE TECHNOLOGY SUMMIT 2007 - adopting the most effective strategy for water efficiency and leakage management

25th - 26th  January 2007, with a pre-conference workshop on 24th January, at the Hotel Russell, London

The professional standard of the first Global Leakage Summit, held in London in January 2006, was very high, receiving acclaim from presenters, delegates and exhibitors alike. Following this success London Business Conferences is now preparing a second Summit, to be held in January 2007.

Globally, water demand is rising and resources are diminishing. The problem of water loss and leakage is a perennial one, and utility operators need a strategic approach to tackle it. The 2007 summit examines case studies from utility practitioners worldwide - describing their strategies and programmes for leakage management and water efficiency. Together, these programmes form a strategy for restoring a potentially huge lost resource.

The pre-conference workshop, facilitated by Ewan Group, will concentrate on 'asset management planning and leakage strategy development', and will be followed by a site visit to view Thames Water's innovative 'Smart DMA' project.

The conference sessions will include an international panel discussion to review the alternative management options being practised internationally. An industry and regulator panel discussion will discuss the thorny issue of economic leakage models and leakage targets set against a background of social and environmental effects and regional supply/demand issues.  Our regulator panel includes:

  • Dr Melinda Acutt - Director of Network Regulation, OFWAT
  • Dr David King - Director of Water Management, Environment Agency
  • Peter Jiggins - Head of Branch, Drinking Water Quality and Water Conservation, DEFRA
  • Dennis Dellow - Network Manager, Northumbrian Water South
A 'cutting edge' technology session will appraise the latest developments for monitoring and detecting leaks, particularly in plastic pipes.

Speakers will include senior practitioners from UK and international utilities - UK utilities represented include:  Anglian Water, Bristol Water, Northumbrian Water, Scottish Water, Severn Trent Water, South West Water, Thames Water, United Utilities and Veolia Water.  Some of our international speakers are:
  • Bambos Charalambous (Cyprus). Head of Technical Services, Lemesos, who will share experiences of how the Water Board of Lemesos has implemented state of the art technology.  Bambos is also Chairman of the IWA Water Loss Task Force.
  • Francisco Paracampos (Sao Paulo).  Director of Operations in one of the world's mega cities, where pressure management has been installed on a huge scale providing huge benefits.
  • Hannes Buckle (Johannesburg).  Water Management Strategist, Rand Water, where water conservation programmes and programmes to stop illegal connections are high priority.
  • Francisco Cubillo (Madrid).  Director of Operations of one of the driest areas of Europe, which is currently experiencing a drought.  Francisco is also Chairman of the IWA Specialist Group on Efficient Operations Management
  • Bob Taylor (Abu Dhabi).  Deputy Managing Director, Abu Dhabi Distribution Company, ADWEA, will share experiences on the investment priorities for leakage and rehabilitation strategies in a water scarce country with high water costs.
