I Simpósio Brasileiro de Mudanças Ambientais Globais

11-12 Março 2007

A Academia Brasileira de Ciências, o International Geosphere-Biosphere Programme (IGBP), o Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE) e o Escritório Regional do International Council of Science (ICSU) para a América Latina e Caribe estão organizando o Io Simpósio Brasileiro de Mudanças Ambientais Globais, a ser realizado no no Rio de Janeiro, nos dias 11 e 12 de março de 2007, com os seguintes objetivos principais:

1. Apresentar o estado da arte da ciência que se faz no Brasil sobre mudanças ambientais globais para os setores acadêmico, governamental, empresarial e político;
2. Contribuir para identificar lacunas de conhecimento sobre mudanças ambientais globais de relevância para o país;
3. Promover um fórum de discussão com vistas à criação de um Comitê Nacional Brasileiro de Mudanças Ambientais Globais junto à Academia Brasileira de Ciências.

Os tópicos a serem cobertos através de palestras convidadas versarão sobre Mudanças Climáticas e seus Impactos no Brasil, Mudanças Ambientais Globais e Biodiversidade, Ciclos Biogeoquímicos e Clima e Dimensões Humanas das Mudanças Ambientais Globais. Como palestrantes deste Simpósio, foram convidados pesquisadores brasileiros com destacada atuação científica nos vários aspectos das mudanças ambientais globais.

I  Brazilian Symposium on Global Environmental Change

March 11-12, 2007

The Brazilian Academy of Science (ABC), the Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas Espaciais (INPE), the International Geosphere-Biosphere
Programme (IGBP), and the Regional Office for Latin America and Caribbean and the International Council of Scientific Unions (ICSU) are
organizing the Ist Brazilian Symposium on Global Environmental Change. The Symposium will be held at the Rio Othon Hotel in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, March 11 and 12th, 2007, and has the following main objectives:

1. Present the State of the Art of environmental science in Brazil to academic, governmental, corporate and non-governmental sectors;
2. Identify relevant knowledge gaps related to the threat global environment change at the national level;
3. Promote a forum to discuss the launch of a Brazilian National Committee on Global Environmental Change within the Brazilian Academy of Sciences.

Topics included in the invited contributions are: Climate Change Impacts in Brazil, Global Environment Change and Biodiversity, Biogeochemical Cycles; and Climate and the Human Dimensions of Global Environmental Change. The topics will be discussed by experts who have made important contributions to the effort of understanding global environment change and its impacts in Brazil.
